info:
Formed in Gdansk (Poland) in 2001, their line-up is Tomasz Garstkowiak (vocals, guitars), Magda Szkudlarek (vocals, synthesizers) and Piotr Salewski (bass guitar). Combining lo-fi songwriting with discreet electronica OTR released their critically acclaimed debut album in 2004 on Sissy Records (an independent division of BMG Poland). The follow-ups were "Downtown" (Kafe Delfin, 2006) which contained a number of electro-pop tunes with the sounds of analogue synthesisers and drum machines and "Just Because We Were Wrong" (Gusstaff Records, 2008) – a set of beautifully crafted songs with a touch of folk, avant-pop and bossa nova. The latest „Sketches For Another Christmas Songbook” is a collection of eleven Christmas songs written by the band. It’s their most intimate and quiet record so far.
Based on the sounds of acoustic guitars and piano, full of vocal harmonies and catchy tunes. Sometimes sentimental and melancholic, sometimes humorous and ironic „Sketches…” sounds unlike any other Christmas album, but ultimately it’s more filled with Christmas spirit than the whole wall of holiday hits. The single „Christmas With You” features guest vocals from a singer-songwriter Julia Marcell.

Bluesbunny review

Anyone wanting to get a fix of sunshine indie pop should go to their local dealer and see if this is available. A Polish band who seem incredibly at home singing in English, there is no trace here of their ethnic origin. Instead we get a bit of bossa nova and some Belle and Sebastian all leavened with a pinch of Stereolab.
Opening with "Why Don't We" one is immediately reminded of Stereolab with bright guitar lines and retro (but futuristic) keyboards wheezing behind the attractive hushed male/female vocals. While other songs pursue this "electronica" direction others have a more whimsical, eighties pastoral feel very much in the vein of those old Cherry Red label recordings. Singers Tomasz Garstkowiak and Magda Szkudlarek shine both individually and in harmony. Simple melodies adorn the twelve songs which can all be summed up in the one word - "pretty." The title song is a beautiful piece which doesn't last long enough. The rippling guitars of "About the Past" and the hushed vocals of "Honey Are We Getting Older" lift these songs above the ordinary.
All in all an excellent little album.  4/5

IndiePages review

You know, I don't think I've come across a band from Poland before, at least definitely not a record from one (and no, the band Poland from Seattle doesn't count!). Old Time Radio has been around for a few years and this is their third album, and it's a fine mix of soft electropop and even softer acoustic pop. "Why Don't We" starts the record off on a very high note, with its bouncy rhythm, melodic synth line and hushed boy/girl vocals - it reminds me of a stripped-down Pia Fraus or maybe that last Summer Cats single. The Postmarks-ish "Just Because We Were Wrong" follows, and is a delightful acoustic song with a bossa nova feel and flute/glockenspiel embellishments. Occasionally, the band has a slightly experimental streak, and the electropoppy "Stop, Listen, Wait For The Night" finds them succeeding (though I can't really say the same for "Locked Inside Your Heart", which is a vocal round that sounds more like an outro to a song not heard). They also like to break out the string section, as heard in a number of these songs. All in all, this is quite an enjoyable album, and I'm glad to be introduced to a new scene in the world of indiepop.  MTQ=10/12

Downtown reviews:

Whilst the buzzing analogue synth sounds and frail melodies evoke memories of Komeit or certain quarters of the Morr Music roster, there’s an element of shoegaze revisionism at work here but not only in the music itself – even the artwork references 4AD. There’s no shortage of indietronica delights to be found on this release, whether it be the downbeat bedroom disco of the title track or the trumpet-infused Stereolab stylings of ‘She Haunts Me’, Old Time Radio manage to charm from start to finish (…) www.boomkat.com

Some very very sweet electronic bedroom indie pop from this polish based outfit on the new kafe delfin label, there are elements of uptempo early stereolab, some shoegazing guitar sounds, little bits of early 4ad and some heavy bass driven eighties synth pop, the album is a real breezy collection of happy little electronic pop sounds with lots of clever touches, its all very very catchy in a late night laid back kind of way, fans of the likes of lali puna, the notwist, stereolab or broadcast should really love this. www.roadrecs.com
